Here are the latest SEO ranking factors for Google

Top SEO Ranking Factors 2019SEO is an ever present conundrum in the life of a business owner! With Google changing its algorithm constantly, it can be a real headache to keep up with the latest strategies. Should I do this? Should I do that? It all becomes very confusing for many local business owners. Add into the mix that they are trying to run their own businesses as well!

So, what are the latest top SEO ranking factors for 2019?

Here are the top 5 Google ranking factors that we have recently discovered. You will be shocked by at least 1 of them I guarantee. They are not in any order of importance, but suffice to say that they are all important!

     1. Mobile First Indexing

Back in March 2018, Google started the process of looking at the mobile version of your website in order to figure out where your website should rank in its search results. And that is not just ranking on a mobile, but on the desktop as well. Have you checked your website for mobile friendliness lately? Here is a free tool for just that job.

This process has picked up apace and is one of the top SEO ranking factors 2019 in Googles eyes.

     2. Page Speed

The page loading speed of your webpage has become a huge ranking factor. Basically if your website takes longer than 3 seconds to load when someone arrives there, your ranking will be affected. There are several tools out there (mostly free) to check how your webpage is doing. We regularly see websites loading at over 10-15 seconds! Yes, really!

Two of the best tools we have found are:

GTMetrix

Googles Pagespeed Insights

A slow load speed also has a detrimental effect with your visitor as well. It has been documented that a person will only take a maximum of 7 seconds to work out if your website is of interest to them. If your website is slow to load, they are already feeling like they want to go elsewhere.

     3. GDPR – Are you compliant?

This was a shocker for us. Whilst we know many of the whys and wherefores of being GDPR compliant, it now appears that Google is taking it into consideration for ranking purposes. You must have an easy to see Cookie policy and also a Privacy policy that is easily accessible. Ensuring that you also have a GDPR compliant opt in form if you are building a mailing list is also critical (not to mention legal).

     4. Your Brand

Google has openly stated that your brand awareness is now also becoming a ranking factor. Mentions of your brand across the internet will start to become very important. For example, when posting to your social networks, make sure you include your brand as a hashtag. Having a social profile across all the major social networks is an obvious thing to do.

     5. Amazon Search

Yes believe it or not, if you are a business that sells physical items, having them listed on Amazon with an account name that matches your brand is becoming important. Not only that but the Amazon search is fast becoming one of the top 3 search engines in the world. Being on Amazon is a must. Apparently 56% of consumers now go straight to Amazon to search for the item they are looking to buy. If you are not selling on Amazon, you are missing out on 56% of potential customers.

There are probably some in there that have surprised you, they did us when we heard about them. But it just goes to show, how difficult it is to keep uptodate with everything in the world of online marketing.
